The Word, Portmanteau

Portmanteau is a very interesting word.

A portmanteau is a type of folding suitcase. This is French word in which contains porter “to carry” and manteau “mantle”.  This is one word that literally carries its own meaning.

It is also a linguistic term for words that is blended from 2 words also known as a “blend”. Many of our blend words we used to today are cleverly created to describe something. Such as  “brunch” which is ‘breakfast + lunch’ together, “liger” is a cross-breed of a ‘lion + tiger’ and “motel” is a ‘motor + hotel’ or another word for ‘motor inn’.

Ironically, portmanteau is also a blend word which was formed over centuries ago. Words like portmanteau is like a time capsule to our present. Many of these unique words has more than just it’s meaning. It had been in a certain place and time to be from until it presents itself like a luggage you bring elsewhere.

Many words do carry and can travel whether if it’s heard, said or written. As long as anyone can remark it and remember it. It carried its own message into my writing.

Perhaps one day, these amusing little discoveries that comes along to each of our journey can be more than just words. Whatever it is, it will erect its wonder.

I do think it will because my letters are little portmanteaus in paper within an envelope on a voyage to destinations and waiting to be opened. Would be a Pandora’s Box? Or maybe an awaited gift of wisdom.

Explain Genesis and Genetics, The Genes and The Genus

Genesis is the beginning. Like the Bible, it opens the first chapter of the Old Testaments which is called Genesis. Life emerged and its’ open possibilities. We are supposedly came from Adam and Eve and some are ingrained to believe so; yet science begs to differ.

Our science reveals that we all living being including us share together are genetics. The genes is embedded deeply within us in which each cell contains DNA. One strain of DNA is a piece of what creates a being and what makes up one organism.

Just think of a hair, it is so small but it actually stands out because it is apart of you. As an individual, our genes make who we are and it made a unique being.

Stalemate…

What to write… I don’t feel inspired, but I ended up getting a random thought somehow.

This time, this just occurred to me. The word that often is described to my mind is called “stalemate”.

Ironically, I’m not. As I continue, it’s worth sharing.

A stalemate is when you cannot make a move or any progress where you are. It is not a struggle, it is just the state of the mind.

Am I feeling Ambivalent or is the Ambivalence elsewhere?

We are never be sure of our feelings entirely.

We know the names of basic emotion such as joy, sadness and anger. After we learned that these first feelings are easily distinguished, we discover the are more complicated ones that are blended combinations of two or more feelings. And yet, there are more that cannot be named, described or foreseen in a single word (or perhaps within one sentence or longer). When something happen, there can be responses that be varied but never the same. There is one word however that shares many feelings that differs each other and can occur in one time and place. It is also possible for opposing feelings can be in one person as well.
